Eye fitness
You can exercise to keep your eyes fit! Here are two eye exercises originally developed by New York ophthalmologist Dr William Bates to improve eyesight without resorting to lenses or surgery:

1. Cover your left eye with your right hand. Then hold your left hand out at arm's length in front of your right eye. Look at the palm of your hand. Move the hand gradually towards your eye, focusing on the palm of your hand as well as possible as you move it by fixing on a defined point.
Move your hand back to its original position, following the movement with your eye. Repeat this movement 3 or 4 times and then repeat the whole exercise with your right eye.

2. Hold one of your index fingers about 15 cm in front of your nose and the other about 15 cm beyond the first. Change focus from one finger to the other. Chose an object that is further away from you in the room as a third point. Fix your eyes on each point in turn, establishing a regular rhythm, for about 3 minutes.

Eye relaxation
Our eyes are subjected to a lot of strain every day, so do your eyes a good turn by giving them regular breaks to relax:

1. Close your eyes and cover them with your cupped palms with your hands side by side, avoiding pressure on the sockets. Your fingers should be touching your forehead with the little fingers touching. Do not squeeze your eyes shut. Breathe slowly and evenly, relaxing and imagining deep blackness. Remain like this for 2 minutes.

2. Sunlight – if it doesn't shine straight into your eyes – is good for your photoreceptors. Sit comfortably and face the sun with your eyes closed. If the sun is too bright, then face towards a point that is a little lower in the bright sky. Experience the sun's warmth for two to three minutes then finish the exercise.
