Cataract
A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye. The first indication of cataract is increased light sensitivity, which can be particularly be a problem when driving at night. This is followed by vision becoming blurred, everything begins to look foggy or distorted. The clouding develops gradually and is accompanied by progressive loss of vision.
Cataract is easy to treat. Outpatient surgery is performed to remove the cloudy lens and replace it with a clear artificial lens. This routine operation usually takes no more than 15 to 20 minutes and involves only minor stress for the patient.
The natural, clouded lens is typically replaced with an artificial monofocal lens, which permits clear vision again following surgery. Unlike the natural lens, however, the artificial lens is not able to adapt to focus on different focal points automatically, so the patient only has good short-sighted or long-sighted vision. To compensate, glasses are usually prescribed, which generally also have sun protection lenses to replace the protective filter provided by the natural lens.
ocuranaPlus treatment
ocuranaPlus treatment opens up a number of new and innovative possibilities.
ocurana replaces the natural lens with a special artificial lens a multifocal intraocular lens that restores natural vision almost completely, enabling the majority of patients to enjoy life without needing glasses after their cataract operation, since multifocal lenses restore the full range of vision, be it long-distance, short distance or in between.
Additionally, ocurana uses a modern type of lens that filters both ultraviolet and blue light. This protects the eye from harmful blue wavelength light, which is damaging to the retina, compensating for the loss of the eye's natural protective filter. Natural color vision is not affected.
